Slowing Down
Once the cold hits we find ourselves in a different rhythm around here. Life seems to slow down as the days grow shorter.
We rise later, and take our mornings easy. We eat a nice warm breakfast and I keep the coffee pot full. We play lots of music and keep candles lit all day.
Almost every day, after emails are answered and the breakfast dishes are washed, we make our way upstairs. I fill our big clawfoot tub with hot water and bubbles, and Adri tosses in a random collection of whatever her current favorite toys are. Then we all climb in and soak for a good long while. The girls get nice and clean, Adri shows Piper what "clouds" (big piles of bubbles) are, and I relax. It's a favorite morning ritual and we are starting to look forward to it.
We spend our afternoons at the kitchen table, watching the birds at the feeder, or drawing. With Christmas fast approaching we have also often been popping in a holiday movie to watch. We are making our way slowly though childhood favorites such as Frosty, Rudolph, and Elf.
I love living where there are the changing seasons. As much as I hate the cold and snow there is something so cozy about the shorter days and chilly mornings. It forces us to relax, spend more time together, and snuggle in (often mainly for warmth) at night. I really wouldn't have it any other way.
So here's to enjoying the chilly winter days, while patiently waiting for Spring, sunshine, and outdoor adventures.
Happy First Day of Winter.
These are some of my favorite reasons for enjoying winter.
