I am sitting curled up my cozy chair, with a big mug of tea and my newly-started knitting project beside me. However, the knitting is not happening at this moment, as I am sitting here thinking of this past year and how fast it seems to have gone by.

I have learned a lot this year. About myself and other people. And about life in general.
I have seen a lot of changes take place. In my own family and in others.

And the interesting thing is, as much as things change, some things seem to stay just the same.

I am going to join in on Olivia's excellent idea {thank-you, Olivia!}and just give a list of 12  highlights of this past year, 2012. Well, I think maybe mine is not really just highlights, lets say it is more like 12 things that have made up this year.

1. Reading. Lots of good books, there are no truer quotes than these two, "I can't imagine a man really enjoying a good book and reading it only once" and, "It is a good rule after reading a new book, never to allow yourself another new one till you have read an old one in between.". So, that means that I think I have read as many new books as I have read old ones in between.

Oh, and that includes good articles found online, such as this one here

2. Traveling. We have made many trips out of state this year to visit with friends and have had some wonderful times with them.

3. Knitting. I have worked on so many kitting projects this year. It is nice to be able to take something in the car or for when I am just sitting somewhere and want to keep my fingers busy.

4. Cooking. Pretty much the same as reading- making lots of new recipes, with lots of old ones mixed in.
A few new favorites this year are this here, here and here

5. Pinterest. A wonderful, wonderful place to find inspiration and is a treasure trove for the crafty. There is nothing like a place where you can put all the good ideas that you find online in one spot!

6. Taking pictures. There is something so great about having a camera nearby and to be able to document days {and over time, years} and then be able to looks back over those times. I will forever be so grateful for cameras.

7. Seeing The Dark Knight Rises, The Hobbit and Les Misérables all in the theater would, I think, definitely be called highlights of this year.

8. One of the best things of this year was the lack of snow we had. Usually we have snow here in Wesleytown from October until May {and for those of you who might not be able to tell-we happen to belong to the group of people that strongly dislike snow!}. Well, this year the snow held off until the week right before Christmas! True, we have a lot of it now, but it was really nice to have it stay away for so long!

9. Family. To have siblings and parents that you not only like, but also are your best friends and are the people that you love to hang out with, is truly one of the best things in the world. This year most of the fun things that I have done has been done with one or more of my siblings and I am so glad that we are all so close and love being together.

10. Downton Abbey. Yes, one of the best tv. shows I have ever seen. I have enjoyed each and every episode and am eagerly awaiting the Christmas special!

11. I think going to the State Fair was a pretty great thing this year. Nothing like a hot day, lots of sun, animals, music and rides that scare you half to death!

12. And finally, last but not least. I have greatly enjoyed having not just one, but two jobs this year that I have really enjoyed. It is nice to be able to like what I do every day and not dread going into work.

Tonight we are all heading over the Wesley and Claire's to hang out, play games and welcome in the New Year together.

And to wrap up the end of this year and the beginning of a new one, January 1st 2013 will mark our 5th year anniversary of moving to Wesleytown~talk about time flying!

We are planning on celebrating the day with a big feast of a beef roast {cooked with onions, mushroom and stewed tomatoes}, scalloped potatoes, brussels sprouts, Yorkshire pudding, with a chocolate trifle of dessert!

  11. Really enjoyed following the links!

My husband and I are going to see The Hobbit later this week. We are hoping it won't be as crowded then.

I know what you mean about snow. I love to look at it but since we live in the country and traveling in it can be "interesting", I am not always happy to see it arrive.

Having said that... after last year's terrible drought, we are happy for the precipitation!

  12. Hi Rosie,
