The Lady Of Shalott
~ Lord Alfred Tennyson~

"On either side the river lie
Long fields of barley and of rye,
That clothe the wold and meet the sky;
And thro' the field the road runs by
To many-tower'd Camelot;
And up and down the people go,
Gazing where the lilies blow
Round an island there below,
The island of Shalott.

Willows whiten, aspens quiver,
Little breezes dusk and shiver
Thro' the wave that runs for ever
By the island in the river
Flowing down to Camelot.
Four gray walls, and four gray towers,
Overlook a space of flowers,
And the silent isle imbowers
The Lady of Shalott.

By the margin, willow-veil'd
Slide the heavy barges trail'd
By slow horses; and unhail'd
The shallop flitteth silken-sail'd
Skimming down to Camelot:
But who hath seen her wave her hand?
Or at the casement seen her stand?
Or is she known in all the land,
The Lady of Shalott?

Only reapers, reaping early
In among the bearded barley,
Hear a song that echoes cheerly
From the river winding clearly,
Down to tower'd Camelot:
And by the moon the reaper weary,
Piling sheaves in uplands airy,
Listening, whispers "'Tis the fairy
Lady of Shalott". "

  1. Lovely! Can you ever hear that poem and not think of Anne Shirley?

  2. I have the song on my site Rosie. Come and visit when time allows. Rose

  3. One of my very favoritest poems! Much love - Raquel XO

  4. Hi Jodi,
Yes I almost always think of Anne Shirley when I hear that poem, and one of my other favorites, The Highwayman.

I'll have to come by for a visit and hear the song. I've been to your beautiful blog before, but have not had time to leave a comment.

I don't know if you got the comment I left for you in one of the posts below, I'll try to write you some time.
And The Lady of Shalott is one of my favorites too :)

  5. Rosie:

Got the comment, I am so glad that you all enjoyed the package. Had some more things I was going to send, but ran out of room! However, I seem to have misplaced the Robin Hood Cookbook, not sure where I put it. Will a Winnie The Pooh Teatime do instead? The Littles will love that one! Hope you all are well. Feel free to write me anytime, would love to hear from you. Much love - Raquel XO
