The Best Never-Fail Playdough Recipe

If you've been on the hunt for the perfect no-fail playdough recipe look no further! We've been using this recipe in my family forever. I remember making it with my siblings when they were small and now I make it with my own wee ones.

This is the basic recipe, but while you can just make it as-is, we also like to add food dye (for coloring), essential oils (for smell), and small things like beads and shells (good sensory play).

Another great idea is to make a big batch of plain dough, take it outside and pat the dough into tree bark, or rocks. Then you can have kiddos add birdseed, nuts, dried, fruit, and whatever else for birds to come and find.

Really, the possibilities are endless!

The Best Never-Fail Playdough

2 cups of flour
3 Tablespoons of Cream of Tartar
1 cup of salt

Mix and then add:

2 cups of boiling water
2 Tablespoons of canola oil

Mix well until cool (as it cools it will get softer and blend together). We also add food coloring at this point, if we want color (which my kiddos always do).
