Getting Real

Happy Halloween week. I don't know about everyone else, but this has been one strange year, and it's only getting stranger as we head into the holidays. Honestly, this has been a pretty rough week (and it's only Wednesday) and I don't think "happy" is the right word to use.

Our family (extended, not Adam, the girls, and me) experienced a bout with COVID-19.  A few members recently tested positive and have been quarantining the past couple of weeks. We've been missing seeing everyone, and the good news is that they are on the mend, and no one was seriously sick (a couple of people didn't/don't even have symptoms).

The devastating news is that one of my Uncles (my dad's brother) also got COVID a few weeks ago, and after being hospitalized, passed away this morning.

For years Uncle Kevin was in the circus, and after retiring from there decided to go to school and become a nurse. He met and married a dear, wonderful woman (Jackie) and they adopted her two small grandchildren to raise as their own.

There was one never-to-be-forgotten summer when Uncle Kevin came and lived with us while on break from the circus (they weren't touring at the time). He taught us 6 kiddos how to do handstands, juggle, and do magic tricks.

He had the cutest little dog, Spunky, who was part of his performance (he was a clown) and did some pretty cool stunts.

Uncle Kevin was one of the most unique, stand-out-from-the-crowd people. He was funny, and super, super smart. I'm sure that he had no idea the impact that he made on countless lives and he will be greatly missed by many, many people.

Honestly, this year seems to only be getting worse, and I'm SO ready (along with everyone else, I think) to have it OVER. 2021 can't come soon enough.

Anyway, that's our week so far. It's been an emotional one, and we're having some really dreary weather that isn't helping our moods at all.

Here's to the weekend, and better health, and healing.

I know that I'm more and more absent from this little space, as work and life pick up (working from home and homeschooling keeps one BUSY, you guys!). But don't worry, it's not forgotten!

Thanks for sticking around for the occasional blog posts.

  1. Sorry to hear about uncle Kevin. It has been sad losing so many wonderful people to covid. Last week we lost so many at the NH where I work part time. It’s just hard! Love you all. Kel
