familiar places
While visiting New England we stopped by the library that I grew up going to. It's a beautiful old building, and I have so many fond memories of visiting there.
Outside is a big park and every year they have Shakespeare In The Park. It's always a different play and it's free and open to the public. We used to pack a picnic of bread and cheese, take a big blanket, and go. One year (I think it was when they were doing Macbeth) we went to every performance!
There's something so special about going back and getting to show my own child all the places we went to and things we did. I love where we live now, but it's the one thing I do miss (besides the ocean) about not living in the same area that I grew up in. Being able to share with my children the wonderful area that I grew up in and all my old haunts from my childhood.
At least we can always go and visit, right?

DeleteAs a military brat who has lived several different places, in my humble opinion, it is fun to be able to take your children to the haunts of your childhood, without actually having to live there. I took my son when he was 12 or 13 and we went to my old "home town" in Nebraska. Of course if you don't like where you live, I always say move! LOL

DeleteI love reading your blog. You take such beautiful pictures! I live only 7 or 8 miles from my parents. I've always lived in the same area. I love it! It's a small "everybody knows me and I know them" kind of place. Now I have two kids of my own, and I love making memories with them and raising them where I grew up. I'm sure you must miss being "home". Maybe some day you could move back, who knows...? Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, Danni :) There is something special about living in the same area as you grow up in, I'm sure. As much as I love the area I grew up in, I really wouldn't want to live there again (for many reasons). It's always so wonderful to go and visit though.
