~Good Reads~
With all this rain falling steadily yesterday, we have been curled up, in front of the wood stove, drinking tea, and reading a lot.
I thought it might be nice to give some book recommendations.
These books below are among our favorite read and re-reads..... ~

Sort of like the Bere Rabbit stories....

All I can say is, these books are excellent reading for the whole family!
The writing reminds me of Arthur Ransome or Edith Nesbit, two of my other favorite authors..

Men Of Iron
By Howard Pyle
A classic medieval type tale.

The Good Master
By Kate Seredy
A must read, that is all I can say.

The Wind In The Willows By Kenneth Graeham
One of my favorite books, the author wrote it for his blind son, and the writing is SO descriptive.

The Lad Books
By Howard Payson Terhune
The best of dog stories!

Only Opal
By Opal Whitely
A beautiful book, like a fine painting or piece of art, to be not just *read*, but *soaked* in.

Any the James Herriot books.....all of them are wonderful.
~ So, as you settle in as the days grow colder, I hope this gives you some ideas for good reading material...
I'm reading J. Herriot's - is autobiography or biography? I can never remember, anyway, its by his son, Jim Wight, and so very good. The All Creatures show that was on thru the '80's was one of the few things we were allowed to watch as children, and remains one of my favorites to this day.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Rosie. We, too, love to read. I'm reading "People of the Spirit" about outbreaks of revival . My favorite time to read is on a gray day or a snowy evening. We must check out a few from your list. We are due for a trip to the library. :) Have a sweet week.

ReplyDeleteI recently requested The Twenty-one Balloons from our library as I had not ever read it and you either recommended it in an older post or I saw it on another book list you had.

I just finished reading "The 21 Balloons" book...I loved it!! Saw where you had posted about this book on your blog a while back.
Also saw where you had talked about the book "Swallows and Amazons" and I have that checked out from the library..will start on it today.

Oh, I just adore James Herriott. I started reading his books as a child. I recently found a copy of Wind in the Willows - I have never read it. Next rainy day I get some time I'll snuggle up with some cocoa and my kittie and have a grand old time reading it. Much love to all - Raquel XO
