after the weekend: work, rain, fermentation, and a couple interesting links.

Saturday morning I had to work. After work we all kinda just crashed and took one of those nice loooong family naps--for almost three whole hours! I told Adam we must have been pretty tired.
On Sunday I ended up cleaning and going grocery shopping although what we really wanted to do was go apple picking. However, the weather forecast said rain even though it didn't rain and was actually nice out (by then it was too late for us to go). Yeah, bummer :( There's always next weekend though.

I have also been busy in the kitchen. I started a jar of kombucha and made sauerkraut on Friday. Yesterday while Julia was hanging out with us (she went shopping with me and then came over to eat BLT's and watch Ivanhoe with us) I made ginger carrots. Today I have great plans to make some fermented beets.

It's been cold around here in the mornings! Like pull-on-a-sweater-to-stay-warm-cold. I guess I can say with confidence that Fall is here to stay now. Time to dig out the winter woolens.

Hermione's house in London, with a small garden in back? I could live here, no problem.

This morning I have been busy. Cleaning, coffee drinking, floor vacuuming, and throwing dinner in the crock-pot (recipe below).

Have a wonderful Monday!

Cheesy Chicken and Rice.

You will need:
4 boneless chicken breasts.
1-18oz cox of rice, cooked (or just use regular rice).
1 large onion chopped.
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
1 can cream of chicken soup.
1-15oz can of whole kernel corn (or just use frozen).

To make:
Put chicken breasts in the bottom of the crock-pot. Top with onions. Spoon soup over the top. Cover and cook for 7-8 hours on low. Cook the rice. Put drained corn, rice and cheese into the crock-pot, stir and cook for about 1/2 hour before serving.
Chicken will be tender and come apart in pieces.
Add salt and pepper to taste.

    1. It was SO nice. It used to happen more often when Adri was littler, but these days it seems like it never happens. It sure was a nice treat!
I've been watching the weather and it looks like it's going to be nice-I'm keeping my fingers crossed! lol
