Recipe: French Onion Soup.

Delicious, and easy to make~ and there are so many variations to just this simple recipe.

Saute onions and garlic in 1 tablespoon of butter-for one person use one medium size onion, and three garlic cloves, and using that measurement, multiple for more people.
You want the onion cooked, but not mushy.

You need a good rich stock-chicken or beef {although I prefer chicken}, homemade is best, but in a pinch you can use store bought.
You will need about 1 1/2 cups of stock per a person.

Add spices to your stock.
Onion, and garlic powder, celery salt, oregano, and a little bit of red pepper flakes.
Just add the spices freely, adjusting to your taste.

Then, add the onion/garlic to the stock, simmer until thoroughly heated.

And that is it!
Serve in big soup mugs with lots of Parmasan cheese on top, and some crusty french bread on the side.

You can also add to this basic recipe {although as it is, it tastes great}.
Mushrooms, rice, noodles, chicken, etc., are some ideas.

  4. Love onion soup; I use a recipe similar to yours - although, as we are Jewish and don't use meat and dairy products in one dish, I use olive oil for sauteing and don't top with cheese, or if I really want cheese and butter in my soup I use water instead of chicken stock.

  5. I love French onion soup. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Most recipes I find make far more than I need for two people.
