:6:21:2012:

We had Wesley and Claire's wee ones come and stay with us for five days, while Claire and Wesley went on a trip to Mexico! We had so much fun with them....lots of playing outside, trips to the playground, reading books, drawing, painting, a trip to the CSA (see post below), more drawing, more reading....

As you can see from the photo below that I swiped from Wesley- they had a wonderful time too!

The weather is continuing to be hot here, so hot that I went swimming for the first time last night!

Today there sound like plans being made for making Strawberry Shortcake, more swimming, work (from me~this after noon), and a trip over to "the boys" place, to watch a movie tonight {well, that part is for Julia and me!}.

A few good articles that I read recently:

From Lanier: God's Own Fool:

From Jami: a name:

Also, I wanted to say, even though I have not had time to respond to comments, I so enjoy reading each one, and hearing from you...it always makes my day! Thank-you for taking the time to say hello :)

A busy art table.

The busy little artists.

“I am a product of long corridors, empty sunlit rooms, upstairs indoor silences, attics explored in solitude, distant noises of gurgling cisterns and pipes, and the noise of wind under the tiles. Also, of endless books.

My father bought all the books he read and never got rid of any of them. There were books in the study, books in the drawing room, books in the cloakroom, books (two deep) in the great bookcase on the landing, books in a bedroom, books piled as high as my shoulder in the cistern attic, books of all kinds reflecting every transient state of my parents’ interest, books readable and unreadable, books suitable for a child and books most emphatically not.

Nothing was forbidden me. In the seemingly endless rainy afternoons I took volume after volume from the shelves. I had always the same certainty of finding a book that was new to me as a man who walks into a field has of finding a new blade of grass.”

"Forever, O Lord, your word
is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
By your appointment they stand this day,
for all things are your servants.
If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have given me life.
I am yours; save me,
for I have sought your precepts.
The wicked lie in wait in order to destroy me,
but I consider your testimonies.
I have seen a limit to all perfection,
but your commandment is exceedingly broad."

::Psalm 119: 89-96

  5. Lovely. Every word and picture. Thank you, Rosie! And I too have enjoyed the same articles that you linked. It always warms my heart to see that my 'favorites' like my other 'favorites'. This internet can be wonderful. Who knew you read Jami's blog? I've known that dear girl since the day she was born. Small, delightful world.

  6. I think the book quote is from Lewis' Surprised By Joy??? Love it!

When I see your stack of books, I know one of the reasons I love your family.

Among a gazillion other reasons, of course. ;)

  7. Rosie,

I love to see what you're all up to!

How wonderful that Wesley and Claire got to go to Mexico! I bet the kids had a wonderful time with you all.

So are the boys in their own place now? How are Ben and Aslaug? and the wee boy?

Love to your delightful Momma, and Julia...

  8. Wesley and Claire are so lucky they have such a family to leave their little ones with, and go away with tranquil hearts! I hope to see more photos from Mexico. :) My brother-in-law and sister-in-law went there too, a couple of years ago, and loved it.

  11. Hello Dear Rosie...It has been quite some time since I have visited you on your blog and I have missed it terribly! I love your blog! It inspires me and teaches me. Thank you for such wonderful words and images!

On that note, I was wondering if you could please tell me who you were quoting above, regarding the books. It began "“I am a product of long corridors, empty sunlit rooms, upstairs indoor silences, attics explored in solitude,". I fell in love with this and would love to keep it near to me, but I need to be able to give credit where credit is due.

Please forgive me if you listed the author and I missed it.

Thanks so much! I hope you and your wonderful family are having a blessed and glorious summer!

    Sheila...

  12. Hi Sheila,
That is so sweet of you to say all that :)

The author of the quote is C.S. Lewis-sorry I didn't think to put it in the post :)

We are having a great summer, I hope you and your family are as well.

    Rosie
P.S. Love your blogger pic of you and your little girl :)
